A Source of Vigour - Annette Greene - The Kenya Connection Project and K.I.D.S. Initiative
I first met Annette Greene in the fall of 2010 when I accepted a teaching position at Maples Collegiate in Winnipeg, Manitoba. At that time, Annette was still teaching in the classroom and was extremely active in the school community. During her first year at Maples Collegiate, Annette began a project with her teacher advisory class that would turn into an effective model for service based learning and make a lifelong impact on both her life and the lives of her students. As a result, she developed connections with the K.I.D.S. Initiative program. A partnership she still maintains today while continuing her work with the foundation. Annette is currently a resource teacher at Maples and she has begun to assume administrative roles. Annette is a true agent of change both in the school and in the Global community.

Project Mission
Annette Greene and her group of students formed The Kenya Connection Project as a support for the Mama Tunza Children’s Home in Kenya. Their goal was to raise money for the home and to fund a trip to view the work completed by their donation through the K.I.D.S. Initiative Foundation.
The Interview
Annette Greene tells her story of how the project came to be in 2009 and she describes the successes and challenges experienced by her and the students through their 4 year journey together. Annette also talks about her current involvement with K.I.D.S. Initiative and gives an update on the continuation of the project.

She is an inspiration, a phenomenal role model, and pure motivation for those who need that guidance to acknowledge their role as a global citizen.
